If you’re new to the crafting community or have even been a part of it for a while, you know that there are just so many different names and ways to separate the different yarn weights. Let’s be honest, it can be not only intimidating but also so confusing! I’ve been part of the crafting community for about 15 years and I still get confused. That’s why we have created the Yarn Glossary, a place to go for all things that have to do with names and weights, to help clear up any confusion while you’re yarn shopping. When talking about the weight of yarn, we are referring to how thick the strand of yarn is. Yarn weights go from 0-7, the higher the number is, the less stitches per inch you’ll have.
This week on The Stitch, we have Classic Bulky! Classic Bulky is a CYC 5 and is also known as bulky or chunky yarn. It’s also about twice as thick as worsted yarn so it works up nice and quick!
What is Classic Bulky?
Classic Bulky is a 2 ply 100% superwash merino wool with 106 yards/100g. This beautiful wool gives you the perfect squish to any project!
Gauge
As a CYC 5, bulky yarn works up nice and quick - that means more projects, right? The knit gauge is 12-15 stitches on 5.5mm - 8mm needles per 4”. The crochet gauge is 8-11 stitches on a 6.5mm-9mm crochet hook per 4”.
Projects
Bulky projects are some of my favorites! It’s a chunkier yarn without being too heavy or bulky. It’s perfect for scarves, sweaters, and blankets! Our Classic Bulky makes for a great match for any Hue + Me yarn projects that you may have in mind!
