I know that I can’t be the only person who is always interested to see what people do at my favorite companies. I’ve always found it so interesting all of the different hats people wear to make things run smoothly, but I’m also nosey. I love seeing and hearing about people’s jobs, it’s always so fun to see what’s out there!
Over here at the Sewrella Yarn Studio we have a lot of different people wearing a lot of different hats. This week, we sat down with one of our Yarn Dyers, Marisa! Let’s get to know Marisa a little more and her job as a Yarn Dyer!
What does your day look like at Sewrella Yarn?
When I first get to the studio, I check the board to get updated on what needs to be done that day and what colorways we're working on. I make my way to the dye studio and start soaking the bare yarn. We then get the dyes ready and set up our tables to dye for the day and get to work dyeing! We continue that process until we're done for the colorways for the day! I would say I dye about 200 and some change skeins everyday!
What made you want to be part of the Sewrella Yarn team?
Oh, there are so many reasons! Not only did I follow Sewrella for years prior, but I've always been around and loved yarn. The idea of creating yarn for people to love was really enticing. The creative process of seeing it from start to finish and then seeing people make projects with that yarn is really special.
What's your favorite part of the day at Sewrella?
My favorite part of the day is whenever there's interaction with everyone! It's such an uplifting environment here and being able to communicate with like minded, powerful, and creative women is so special. Everyone meshes just so well together so we're able to be productive in a very constructive and fun way.
Do you knit or crochet?
Yes, I am very crafty! I both knit and crochet and I've ben doing that for about 13 - 14 years. I actually also run my own little side hustle with yarn (y'all will hear about that momentarily). I love being able to show people the world of knit and crochet. Put a craft in front of me and I'll do it! The only thing I haven't tried in the fiber community is embroidery and punch needles. Nothing has stuck as much as knitting and crocheting.
What has been your favorite collection so far?
I don't know if I could pick a favorite collection! But I have to say the seasonal tonals as a whole is my favorite like "program" that we have.
Favorite color we've done?
I definitely can't pick a favorite color because all of them are just so rich and beautiful and perfect! Hmmm the mini sets - I'll go with that!
What's your favorite yarn base at Sewrella?
From a dying perspective it changes depending on what color we're trying to create. From a crafting perspective I'm pretty settled on Dk but funny enough, I barely use it. I most often work with fingering or worsted - more so worsted. Volume wise it's the most in my stash so it's easiest to find a pattern for what I already have.
What is one color you would love to see us create?
I don't have one because the team already just does it! The colors that are picked are colors that I want before I even know that I want it!
What's your favorite show?
That's a very good question...hmmm. I guess I would have to choose Downton Abbey or Call of the Midwife!
Favorite book?
I read a lot of different genres to keep things fun. Tale of Two Cities is my favorite book. My favorite author is Sarah J. Maas, I just love all of her books.
Tell us about your yarn business!
So I am a content creator for MCC Designz, I came up with that name when I was like 8 and I just stuck with it. Originally I was selling odds and ends at craft fairs and on Etsy. I did that throughout High School. During the first quarantine it transitioned to more social media content. I just threw stuff up on TikTok of me crocheting and it blew up like crazy! I never would have imagined that I would be where I am now. So with the content creation, I'm getting more into pattern designing and more blogging. Which is definitely hard to have that motivation to write things down that are already out in my head. It's been really amazing being able to work with so many different companies and work with such different fibers and yarns. Follow me on TikTok at @MCCDesignz
