FAQs

Home is an extension of what you know and love about Sewrella Yarn: curated color palettes, high quality materials, a refined aesthetic, and yarns that tell a story.

Home is a mill made yarn that's 80% superwash merino wool and 20% cashmere style nylon. It has 212 yds per 100g skein and is available in 20 beautiful colorways.

80% of every skein of Home is superwash merino wool grown entirely in the US. It's cleaned and processed in South Carolina (hey neighbors!) and then sent to the mill we work with in North Carolina (about 3 hours from our studio) to be dyed and spun.

The wool we chose for Home is 21.5 micron which is the same grade as the wool in all of our hand dyed yarn bases. Our mill has lots of different wool grades to choose from and we were very intentional about selecting a wool that feels and performs similarly to the yarns you know and love from us.

Cashmere style nylon is a treated nylon that is smoother and more durable than regular nylon. It does not contain any cashmere fiber but rather is called "cashmere style" to communicate its superior quality and feel. The mill sources this specialty nylon from Italy.

I designed Home to be as versatile as possible - delightful to knit or crochet garments, accessories, socks, home decor items, baby and kids items, even amigurumi! Both the superwash merino wool and cashmere style nylon in this blend are durable for heavy use items while being soft to the touch.

I've learned a lot in my (almost) ten years working in the fiber arts industry - what I like in a yarn and what I felt I could add to the marketplace. I've created hundreds of hand dyed yarn colorways and have refined my eye for color palettes. I wanted to develop my own commercial, mill dyed and spun yarn that felt like a natural evolution in our journey.

Hand dyeing yarn is extremely skilled, labor intensive work. I'm so so proud of our hand dyed yarns, our expert staff of dyers, and the way we transform a few pans, bare yarn and dyes into an immersive experience for crafters through storytelling.

While that will forever remain true, I always dreamed of expanding Sewrella to include a commercial line of yarns. Using the knowledge and style I've developed by dyeing yarns myself, I was able to work together with a mill to create my dream yarn line.
