If you’re new to the crafting community or have even been a part of it for a while, you know that there are just so many different names and ways to separate the different yarn weights. Let’s be honest, it can be not only intimidating but also so confusing! I’ve been part of the crafting community for about 15 years and I still get confused. That’s why we have created the Yarn Glossary, a place to go for all things that have to do with names and weights, to help clear up any confusion while you’re yarn shopping. When talking about the weight of yarn, we are referring to how thick the strand of yarn is. Yarn weights go from 0-7, the higher the number is, the less stitches per inch you’ll have.
This week on The Stitch, we have Suri Sock! Our Suri Sock yarn is a CYC 1, also known as sock or fingering weight yarn. Suri is gorgeous, either worked up on it’s own, or held with another yarn. The texture of the yarn creates a beautiful fuzzy halo effect when worked up. Know what's even better than bare Suri Sock? Suri Sock in our gorgeous Spring Tonals!
What is Suri?
Suri Sock is 100% single ply suri alpaca. It holds 437 yards/100g as a fingering weight yarn.
Gauge
With fingering weight yarn held on its own, you will be using tiny needles (ugh, I know!) But, the finished item is soo beautiful! The crochet gauge is 24 single crochet x 32 rows on a 3.5mm crochet hook will equal out to be 4”. The knit gauge is 28 stitches x 40 rows on 3.25 needles equals out to be 4”.
Projects
Sock weight yarn, specifically our Suri Sock yarn can be used for any project! If you’re using it on its own, or holding with another yarn, your project will have a beautiful fuzzy halo. Cowls, scarfs, shawls, and sweaters are perfect projects for this yarn.
