old fashioned tea cocktail recipe

You read that right! We're getting a little boozy over here for the Mayflower Collection and honestly, everyone at Sewrella HQ is here for it.

This recipe makes a classic Old Fashioned cocktail with a twist - a sweetened bourbon black tea ice ball chills your drink but as it melts it infuses the cocktail with hearty black tea, orange peel, and vanilla to bring out all the best parts of your bourbon. It's the best party trick of all time, even if your "party" only includes one guest.

Inspired by the inventive and delicious cocktails at the Tap Room at the Mayflower, we can enjoy the finer things at home too.

Find the recipe below and shop our Old Fashioned Bourbon Black tea with the Mayflower Collection launching May 27th at 8pm eastern.

To make the tea flavored ice ball:

  • loose leaf tea strainer
  • 4 tbsp Old Fashioned Bourbon Black tea
  • 4 tbsp raw sugar
  • 16 oz boiling water
  • silicone ice ball mold

Measure tea leaves into loose leaf tea strainer, place strainer in glass or mug.

Top with boiling water and let it steep 5 minutes. Strain and stir in raw sugar until dissolved.

Pour into a silicone ice ball mold. Freeze for 4+ hours or until set.

The Cocktail Recipe

  • 4 dashes aged bitters
  • splash of water
  • 2 orange wheels
  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 tea flavored ice ball

In an Old Fashioned glass, muddle together the bitters, an orange wheel and a splash of water.

Remove the orange wheel from the glass, and add the bourbon. Add the tea flavored ice ball. Stir to combine.

Garnish with an orange wheel & enjoy!

Cheers!
