interview with a yarn assistant

I know that I can’t be the only person who is always interested to see what people do at my favorite companies. I’ve always found it so interesting all of the different hats people wear to make things run smoothly, but I’m also nosey. I love seeing and hearing about people’s jobs, it’s always so fun to see what’s out there!

Over here at the Sewrella Yarn Studio we have a lot of different people wearing a lot of different hats. This week, we sat down with one of our yarn assistants, Jeanie. Let’s get to know Jeanie a little more and her job as a Yarn Assistant!

What does your day look like as a Yarn Assistant at Sewrella Yarn?

My day typically starts by checking the schedule on the board to see what needs to be done. I'll either head to the bare yarn room, work on labeling yarn, wind any dried, dyed yarn to get those ready for labeling.

What made you want to be part of the Sewrella team?

I saw one of Ashleigh's stories saying that she needed help in the Studio. I was home and of course wanted to help out - I mean, what more could you ask for in a job where you squish yarn all day?!

Do you knit or crochet?

I do both! I definitely knit more than crochet. I would like to take up more crafts but knitting and crocheting is my thing. I have way too many WIPs to work through. Baby blankets are my favorite thing to make, they're so unique and aren't the same thing over and over.

What has been your favorite collection?

Downton Abbey - it's one of my favorite shows! I also loved the Sunsoaked Collection - I started following Sewrella and Toni (@tlyarncrafts) at the same time prior to working here. I also loved the Taylor Swift collection! I made the Folklore Cardigan sample for the collection. To be able to do a shoot and project for an adult project was so fun experience.

Favorite colorway?

I love the new Spring Tonals! I like that they're more muted and not so much pastel.

What's your favorite Sewrella Yarn yarn base?

Definitely worsted or bulky! The speed and the squishiness and texture is just perfect. It's cozy and you really just want to be wrapped up in both of them.

What's a color that we haven't created yet that you would love to see?

That's a hard one! We create so many different colors! Hmm I would have to say maybe some darker and moodier colors.

What's your favorite show?

Downton Abbey - hands down.

Favorite book?

Little Women - this book really opened my eyes to that world of writing.

What's your favorite part of the day?

I LOVE days when a collection is coming to a close. That's when all of the shelves are filled with beautiful colors, that's my favorite part of being on this team. It's so satisfying and a great sense of WE DID IT!
