If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen me knitting several of these 2x2 rib hats for my kiddos. I wrote up the pattern for you and published it on my blog!

They’re veryyy stretchy so they work well for kids who always seem to be outgrowing their clothes (but I have an adult size written into the pattern too). I used most of one skein of our Classic DK for each hat so it’s a fantastic stash buster project. Parker chose Tuileries from the Garden Collection (pictured above), Graham chose So Long, London and Owen chose You Belong with Me - both from the Eras Part II Collection.

My kids are 3 and 8 with fairly large noggins (19 & 21" respectively) so I followed the same pattern for all of them and blocked on a balloon blown up to the kids head circumference size. Wet blocking really opened up the rib and gave the effect above, I steam blocked the twins’ hats so the rib remained a bit tighter. As they grow, the hat will continue to relax and stretch over time. I hope they wear them for several seasons to come!

PATTERN:
Yarn: Sewrella Yarn Classic DK (Weight 3, 100g, 231 yds per skein)
90g (100g)
Needles: US 4 3.5mm circular needles with a 16" circumference (DPNs or cord to accommodate magic loop needed for working the crown)
Sizes: Kids (Adult)
To fit head circumference: 18-21" (22-25")
Notes:
-Sizing is very flexible for this hat pattern as the 2x2 rib is very stretchy.
-Sizing is written as follows: Kids size (Adult size). When one stitch count or measurement is given, it applies to both sizes.
-Wet blocking this hat opens the rib significantly, I recommend steam blocking if your head circumference is on the smaller end of either size.
